Product Description

It needs bravery to formulate a book for young adults told of Death, not to mention a macabre twist of creativity. The Book Thief 2005 of Markuss Zusak was an worldwide best-seller and was the story of a teenage German girl who, after the Second World War, had a Jewish refugee 's father. However, the novel's most striking aspect was the perspective of the first-person Grim Reaper, who did not seem especially grim but rather sardonic, characteristic and remarkably funny.

Death would always be a difficult act to follow; and Zusak had been working on his subsequent work for more than a decade. It shares the epic weight of The book thief with almost 600 pages, but it is the first one of his novels to be promoted rather than to young adults as general fiction. This distinction is not immediately clear, given that Zusak pitches the reader against a backdrop of cheap food, poor movies and badly behaved pets into the "furiously young" world of Dunbar's boys.
